Which industries can copper strip processing be used in?

Copper strip processing is widely used in many industries such as electronics, electricity, communication, automobile, aerospace, construction, home appliances, new energy and so on because of its excellent electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance and processability. The following are specific application scenarios and typical cases:

I. Electronic and Electrical Industry

Core requirements: high conductivity, precision machining and reliability.

Application scenario:

Lead frame of integrated circuit (IC): As the connection carrier between chip and external circuit, high-precision copper tape (such as nickel-plated phosphor copper tape and iron-copper tape) is required, with thickness tolerance of ±0.005mm and surface roughness Ra≤0.5μm, which requires extremely high flatness and etching performance.

Connector/connector: For example, USB interface and HDMI terminal, tin-phosphor bronze tape and beryllium-copper tape are used, which are 0.1-0.5mm thick and need to be stamped and plated with gold/silver.

Printed circuit board (PCB): used to make conductive lines, electrolytic copper foil (thickness 8-35μm) is adopted and embedded in the substrate by pressing process, and low roughness (RT≤3μm) is required to reduce signal loss.

Typical cases: FPC (flexible printed circuit board) connector in mobile phone motherboard and reed of computer CPU socket.

Second, the power industry

Core requirements: high conductivity, high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance.

Application scenario:

Transmission and distribution equipment:

Copper bus bar (bus bar): used for conducting connection inside power distribution cabinets and transformers. It is made of hard red copper tape (T2Y) with a thickness of 3-10mm, which needs to be bent and tinned, and the conductivity is ≥100% IACS.

Cable shielding layer: copper tape is longitudinally wrapped or wound with a thickness of 0.05-0.2mm, which plays the role of anti-electromagnetic interference and grounding protection, such as high-voltage power cables and communication cables.

Motors and transformers:

Commutator copper tape: used for DC motor commutator, using high-purity copper tape or silver copper tape, which needs to be punched into trapezoidal groove and welded with lead wire, and requires arc corrosion resistance.

Winding wire coating: some special transformers use copper tape to wind the winding instead of traditional enameled wire to improve heat dissipation efficiency.

Typical cases: copper grounding belt in substation, flat copper wire of new energy automobile motor (formed by rolling copper belt).

III. Communication and Consumer Electronics

Core requirements: high-frequency signal transmission, miniaturization and lightweight.

Application scenario:

5G communication base station:

RF coaxial cable: The inner conductor is formed by rolling copper strip (such as corrugated copper tube), with an outer diameter of 2-10mm, which should meet the requirements of low standing wave ratio (VSWR≤1.2) and high shielding efficiency (≥90dB).

Heat dissipation module: Ultra-thin copper tape (0.01-0.1 mm) and graphene coating are used for chip heat sink, and the thermal conductivity is ≥ 380 W/(MK).

Smartphone/wearable device:

Battery connector: Nickel-plated copper tape with a thickness of 0.05-0.2mm is used, and it is shaped into a "Z" shape by stamping, so as to realize the flexible conductive connection between the battery and the motherboard.

Antenna shield: metal shield is stamped with copper tape, and the surface is tinned to prevent electromagnetic interference from affecting signal reception.

Typical cases: copper outer conductor of 7/8 inch RF cable for 5G base station, and copper tape of wireless charging coil of smart watch.

Fourth, the automobile and new energy industry

Core requirements: high conductivity, vibration resistance, high and low temperature resistance.

Application scenario:

Traditional fuel vehicles:

Wiring harness terminal: Brass tape (H62, H65) or phosphor bronze tape with a thickness of 0.3-1.0mm shall be used. After stamping and crimping, it shall be connected to the conductor, and it shall pass the salt spray test (no corrosion for more than 48 hours).

Radiator core: Fins made of * * red copper tape (T2M)** are welded with copper tubes to form a heat dissipation matrix, which requires good solderability (melting point ≤280℃).

New energy vehicles:

Power battery connection system:

Copper bus bar: * * thick copper strip (5-20mm)** plated with nickel or tin is used to conduct large current between battery modules, with current-carrying capacity ≥500A and insulation withstand voltage test (≥1000V DC).

Tab tape: Nickel-plated copper tape or pure copper tape for lithium ion batteries, with a thickness of 0.01-0.05mm, and the surface is required to be burr-free (≤0.002mm) to avoid piercing the diaphragm.

Motor and electric control: rectangular copper strip (such as 1.5 mm× 4 mm) is used to replace round copper wire for flat wire motor, which improves the slot fullness by 30% and the heat dissipation efficiency by 20%.

Typical cases: the copper bus of Tesla Model 3 battery pack and the tab belt of BYD blade battery.

V. Aerospace and Military Industry

Core requirements: high strength, high reliability and extreme environment resistance.

Application scenario:

Avionics:

Precision connector: beryllium copper tape (C17200) with strength ≥1300MPa and gold-plated surface (thickness ≥2μm) is used for wiring harness connection inside aircraft, which needs to pass vibration (20-2000Hz) and impact test.

Thermal control material: use * * ultra-thin copper tape (0.005-0.02mm)** to attach the heat pipe, which is used for radiating the satellite electronic components. The dimensional stability is required to be ≤±0.001mm at-196℃ to+125℃.

Military equipment:

Radar antenna assembly: High-purity oxygen-free copper tape (TU1) with conductivity ≥102% IACS is used to manufacture waveguide components, and low-loss transmission of microwave signals is required.

Ammunition fuze components: the cartridge holder is stamped with * * lead brass tape (HPb59-1)**, and the tolerance is ±0.01mm by using its machinability and corrosion resistance.

Typical cases: avionics system connector of domestic large aircraft C919 and copper alloy sealing belt of space rocket engine.

Six, the construction and decoration industry

Core requirements: weather resistance, aesthetics and easy processing.

Application scenario:

Water supply and drainage system:

Copper water pipes and fittings: Thin-walled pipes (0.8-2.0mm in thickness) made of * * red copper tape (T2Y2)** are connected by socket type or clamping type, and the antibacterial rate is ≥99%, which is suitable for high-end houses.

Roof and curtain wall:

Copper tile/copper plate curtain wall: It is made of antique copper tape (such as H85) with a thickness of 0.8-1.5mm, and the surface is treated with antique (such as blackening by vulcanization), which is used for the restoration of ancient buildings or modern landmark buildings (such as copper decorative strips of Shanghai Tower).
